29 June - 1 July The Hat Fair

Hat Fair is the UK’s longest running festival of outdoor arts. Founded in 1974 by Jonathan Kay, Hat Fair inspires and is inspired by the people, heritage and public spaces within the city of Winchester.

Our aim is to shine a light on the city, transforming the everyday into the extraordinary.

Initially conceived as a busking festival, Hat Fair takes its name from the tradition of the audience showing their appreciation by putting money in the hat at the end of the show.

Invoking the carefree party atmosphere they first ignited when they invited their friends round for a few drinks and dancing around a campfire. Since then they've invited thousands of people to Blissfields, enjoying groundbreaking performances, ridden hot air balloons, walked the trapeze, been in paint fights, dressed as animals, had tractor rides, travelled through time and put on the ultimate house party. So join them in 2018 when they call on all their creative powers, taking it all back to their roots, to begin a new event and a new journey together.
