The half term holiday is heading our way so we’ve put together a little run down of things happening over the October half term week. 

The half term holiday in Hampshire is 22 - 30 October so perfect for some Halloween crafts and spooky goings on!
There's so much going on this half term, from the amazing light installation in Winchester Cathedral to a great variety of performances for all ages at the Theatre Royal and a few wizards and witches thrown in for good measure!

Winchester CATHEDRAL

Light of Hope Installation - until 1 January 2023

‘Light of Hope’, is part of a wide-ranging engagement project which will involve thousands of young people from Hampshire’s schools and community groups creating their own miniature Light of Hope.

A huge-scale sculptural artwork, the Light of Hope Star, is an illuminated five metre diameter steel piece created to unify and represent hope.

Horrible Histories Live! - Saturday 29 October 2022 (performances at 13:00 & 15:00)

From the horrible Henries to the end of evil Elizabeth, hear the legends (and the lies!) about the torturing Tudors. Find out the fate of Henry's headless wives and his punch up with the Pope.

Meet Bloody Mary and see Ed fall dead in his bed. Survive the Spanish Armada as they launch their attack!

The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland - Monday 24 October - Wednesday 26 October 2022

The Amazing Bubble Man - Sunday 30 October at 14:00

Louis Pearl has been thrilling audiences around the world for over 30 years with the art, magic, science and fun of bubbles. He is a favourite at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where he has enjoyed twelve years of sell-out success.
Louis explores the breath-taking dynamics of bubbles, combining comedy and artistry with audience participation and enough spellbinding bubble tricks to keep everyone mesmerized.

Watercress Line

Wizard Week - Monday 24 October - Sunday 30 October 2022 

Children of all ages are invited to dress up as their favourite scary character – little monsters, ghosts, witches and wizards are welcome. There are prizes to be won at the fancy dress competition, to be held each day – with three age categories:
Under 4s – ‘Brand New Wizards’
4 to 8 year olds – ‘Emerging Wand Talent’
Overs 8s – ‘Potion Masters’.

Spine-tingling treats are in store – including terrific rides on the Wizard Express steam train and the thrill of walking in Harry Potter’s footsteps over the famous railway footbridge where Harry received his Hogwarts Express ticket in the film.

Gurkha Museum

Kids Curry & Halloween Crafts - Tuesday 25 October
(drop in any time from 11:00-15:00)

Join us for Nepalese and Gurkha themed craft activities. Make your own spider web paper plate, standing witch puppet or spooky fortune teller game. Our popular curry tastings will also be available. Drop in between 11am and 3pm. We will also have a spooky trail around the museum! Activities are free of charge but we welcome donations to support the work of the Gurkha Museum Trust.

All our kids craft activities and curry tasting is completely free, however we are a charity and are very grateful to any donations to support our work.

Chawton

Jane Austen Village Walk: Family Special - Friday 28 October 10:00

Bring the kids and join us for a fun-filled gambol around Chawton, the lovely country village where Jane Austen lived and wrote. We'll be dressing up, telling stories, playing games and making special memories inspired by our favourite author!

Chawton House Gothic Garden Trail - Saturday 22 - Monday 31 October 2022

Bring your little witches and warlocks to fly around Chawton House’s autumnal gardens over the October half term.
Brave our new ‘Spooky Trail’ and come face to face with wicked witches, peculiar pumpkins and ghostly ghouls- only the most fearless will get to the end.

All kids wearing their Halloween costume will get to visit Chawton House for free over this week!

Science Centre

We Are Aliens - Weekends & school holidays until 13 November (showings at 11am & 2:15pm)

Is the human race alone in the Solar System? Come on an epic ride through space as we hunt for evidence of alien life. Join Harry Potter star, Rupert Grint, as he narrates this exciting film show exploring the possibility of humans one day becoming part of a galactic community. If life is out there, we will find it!  

Science Starz - until 13 November

In 2022 we’re celebrating 20 years of wow moments at the Science Centre. This Autumn, it's your final chance to take a trip down memory lane with us with our final show celebrating some of our best show themes and demos from the past 20 years – all with a retro 2002 twist. Our last stop is sound.
